On the automatic setting, the fan usually spins at 20%, which is enough to keep the GPU cool when it's not really doing anything. (The actual "20%" speed is 1100 RPM or so, compared to a 100% speed of 3400 RPM.) Choosing a fixed speed, whether it's 20% or 60%, doesn't stop the fan from revving to 100% every now and again. Solved. General Hardware. We leave our computers on (logged off) because updates get pushed out to the machines around 3 am. Loose bearings and/or screws may cause fans to produce louder levels of noise. Overheating may be another possible cause. Higher CPU and/or GPU temperatures will force the fan to spin faster, resulting in higher volumes. Aside from those mentioned above, there are a few other possible reasons why laptop fans can be getting so loud as well. Fans are used to move the heat produced by the processor, motherboard, and graphics card out of the computer. If the fans are loose, too small, or not powerful enough, they can create noise. Hard disks can also make noise as the platters spin and the head seeks data. Loud noise is generally a very bad sign and should be dealt with immediately. 02 Dec 2012 #7. But at random intervals, I could see the fan speed up, then slow down again. I was looking at the bios to see if the cpu fan speed changes when the speed up occurs. It says the CPU fan is around. The fans in a computer need to remove a significant volume of hot air, and they can sometimes be very loud, especially when the CPU is working hard. As the CPU "throttles up" to 100% usage, it uses more power and generates more heat. Sensors inside the computer can detect. It is normal for the fans to spin loudly for five to twenty seconds when the computer initially turns on. Step 1: Adjust the computer power settings Adjust the power settings to decrease power consumption, which can help the fans maintain an optimal internal temperature up to 30° C (86° F).
